VOLVO 240 1986 - 1993 Front Corner Lights [200.5.2.1]

Replacing a broken or faded lens is inexpensive and easy. It will dramatically improve the look of your VOLVO in 5 minutes ! Get a pair for a nice looking front end.

    Check the bulbs or replace the lens (1) by undoing the 3 front screws with a + screw driver. The amber reflector on the side is a separate part from the lens. It stays on a slot on the socket assembly. Reposition the joint if required when putting back the lens. 

    The parking light bulb is the upper one, the flasher light is the lower bulb. Push in the bulb lightly and turn counter clockwise a few degrees the release.

    To change the complete assembly (2), undo the headlight first, from inside the engine compartment. Disconnect the bulbs and connectors and undo the 4 nuts holding the headlight bracket.  The corner assembly is bolted to the back of the bracket, pull the bracket with headlight off the car to reach the screws. VOLVO 240, 260 1975 - 1985  Front Corner Lights [200.5.2.2]

Check the bulbs or replace the lens (1)(2)(5) by undoing the front screws with a + screw driver. The Cibie lens has 3 screws, the Hella lens has 2 screws. 

The parking light bulb is the upper one, the flasher light is the lower bulb. Push in the bulb softly and turn counter clockwise a few degrees the release. The bulbs are amber with a clear lens, they are clear with an amber lens.

To replace the socket assembly (3)(4) you must first remove the headlight frame next to it. Open the hood and turn the frame top retaining pins, remove the frame. For more info see the Headlight section. There is a retaining screw on the inner side of the socket assembly, you will reach it with a 11mm wrench, from the front of the car. Two guide pins are also retaining the assembly to the fender, slide it off the car sideways, toward the exterior.

Troubleshooting Parking Lights [200.5.2.3]

• Turn the headlight switch to the parking light P< position. If one or more parking lights are not working a warning light in the dash will turn on, showing a bulb with an X on it.

• If ONE parking light doesn't work at 1 corner of the car only, the other 3 lights are ok -> check the bulb

• If ALL parking lights don't work->check the battery, check the headlight switch, check fuse #15 and #16 for 1979-1993, or fuse #11 and #12 1975-1978.

• if 2 LEFT driver side parking lights don't work, front and rear -> check fuse #15 1979-1993 or fuse #11 for 1975-1978,  both the front and rear lights on the left side are on the same fuse, also the registration plate lights

• If 2 RIGHT parking lights don't work, front and rear -> check fuse #16 1979-1993 or fuse #12 for 1975-1978,  both the front and rear parking  lights on the passenger side are on the same fuse, also the instrument panel lights.

Troubleshooting Turn Signal and Hazard Lights [200.5.2.4]

(1)(2) Turn signal switch [200.5.2.5]

• Flasher lights and sound are ticking at double the usual rate, when turning left or right-> one bulb is burnt on that side, check the front and rear bulb on that side.

• Switch doesn't return to its neutral position after turning left or right:

•     Check the steering alignment and wheel centering

•     Check the switch for a mechanical failure, as described below.

• Flasher relay ticks only once or never when turning left AND right:

•     If the dash instruments and gauges are also not working->check fuse #13 for 1979-1993 or fuse #5 for 1975 to 1980

•    Check the hazard switch. If the lights don't flash in any condition -> check the flasher relay.

• Flasher relay ticks only once or never when turning left or right:

•     Check the switch for a faulty contact, press it down or up to check for a contact point. If it works when held at a different resting point, the switch should be replace

•     Check the 2 bulbs on that side of the car

Turn signal switch replacement:

• Undo the steering column plastic cover: 2 + screws are holding the top part, 2 scews on the bottom part, 1 screw on the front face, next to the ingnition key, and one screw on the front left side, under a square plastic panel (covering the choke cable location)

• Disconnect the switch, undo the 2 + screws holding it to the steering column. On car with cruise control disconnect the extra connector for cruise, you may have to pull on the wires to get it out from under the dash.

• The switch is part number 1255339 you can purchase above.

(3) Flasher relay [200.5.2.6]

• Check the turn signal switch and the hazard switch first, if the relay works in any condition it is good. 

• The flasher relay is located in the center console, next to the ashtray on the driver side. Reach it by removing the center console side panel on the left driver side. The relay is black, rectangular, and has 3 connection. 

• While connected turn on the hazard switch and tap on the relay, flip it up straight, if it starts working intermittently or not at all it should be replaced. 

• The relay is part number 1259615 you can purchase above.

(4) Hazard switch [200.5.2.7]

When flipping the hazard switch the lights don't flash, the relay doesn't tick or ticks only once:

•     Check fuse #9 for 1979-1993 or fuse #6 for 1975 to 1980

•     Check the turn signal switch

•     If the corner lights doesn't flash with the turn signal switch -> check the flasher relay.

•     Check the bulb in the hazard switch

To check the bulb or change the hazard switch, pry it off with a | screw driver on the lower edge. Pull out the switch and locate the bulb socket in the back, pull on the socket with its wire. The bulb is pulled straight out. The switch is part number 1258494 you can purchase above.

VOLVO 240 1986 - 1993 European Side Flasher Lights[200.5.2.8]

Remove the side emblems with a very flat knife. You will find behind an odd square hole. Remove old emblem glue by rubbing gently with WD40 or similar product. The light assembly snaps in the hole. Kit comes with wiring harness.
