The VOLVO 444 is a 2 door model produced from 1947 to 1958. It was followed by the VOLVO 544. The 444 can be differentiated from the 544 by its split windshield, the 544 uses a single piece curved windshield. The 444 was the first VOLVO imported in the USA in 1958.

VOLVO 444 Special - 1947 1956 The VOLVO 444 Special is the more luxurious model and was also more performant toward the end of production when a dual carburetor engine was introduced. Luxury here means for example 2 sun visors, a cigarette lighter, grab handles, rims around the hub caps. By todays standard this sounds strange but remember that the 444 was a post-war effort to get ordinary people to own a car.
